  Article:   SOME CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING THE HISTORY AND CELEBRATION OF THE SHABBAT.

  Abstract:  The essay aims at recovering the religious significance and the main treats of the celebration of the Shabbat for a Christian readership. The premise of the examination is that Christianity needs to constantly reflect on its Jewish roots. Second, although Christianity has given up the observance of the Shabbat, its theology and liturgical practice have preserved many ideas, symbols and forms of expression that draw from the Shabbat. The biblical excurse considers the main religious and social functions associated with the Shabbat (holy day, rest day, remembrance of the Creator and of creation, commemoration of the liberation from slavery and of the covenant, social sensitivity). An overview of the celebration of the Shabbat follows, with a focus on the synagogal rites.
